THE MUSEUM OF SLAVONIA IN OSIJEK - THE ARCHAEOLOGICA COLLECTION

The Archaeological Department of the Museum of Slavonia in Osijek stores several artifacts connected to the Egyptian cults worship in the Roman province of Pannonia, and acquired during the archaeological excavations in the area of Osijek and eastern Slavonia. The senior curator Jasna Šimić, Ph.D., and the curator Slavica Filipović, Prof., who provided me kindly with these informations, are currently in charge of the Museum's collection.

The biggest attention was given to the finding of a white limestone stela with a representation of the Egyptian divinities (the Pedi-Hor-pa-khereda stela). It was discovered in the area of the Osijek's upper town in the late 19th century (inv. num. 2590). The Museum's collection contains also a shabti made of the green enameled terra cotta (inv. num. 5243), a gemma made of the dark green jasper with a Harpocrates image (inv. num. 1406), a cornice of a sepulchral stela with a lion pair (inv. num. 6148), and six amulets (no inventory numbers).

The artifacts of the collection were published by H. Liebl (1900), M. Höger (1942), I. Degmedžić (1954), D. Pinterović (1958, 1965), B. Perc (1968.), P Selem (1972, 1980, 1997), J. Šimić (1997), S. Filipović (1997), H. Göricke-Lukić (2000), and M. Tomorad (2000, 2003).
